About Dr. Alissa Hochman
Your connection with your therapist is the strongest predictor of how much you'll get out of therapy. That's why building a strong relationship is my first priority — ensuring you feel heard, safe, and understood. I know how important it is to feel comfortable being open and honest with your therapist, including sharing feedback about your experience. Whether you're new to therapy or have years of experience, I'll work with you to create a space where you can fully be yourself. Together, we'll combine practical strategies to reduce distress with deeper exploration, at your pace, to help you create meaningful, lasting change.
I specialize in working with issues of identity, anxiety, depression, trauma, and OCD, drawing on multicultural, behavioral, somatic, and psychodynamic approaches. This includes helping men reduce feelings of isolation and stress, and helping people whose family trauma continues to shape their lives and sense of self regain their agency. I work with individuals and couples, and have experience facilitating process and skills-based therapy groups as well. I have worked with people across diverse genders, races, sexualities, social classes, and life experiences. Whether or not we share the same identities, I view therapy as a collaboration: I bring expertise in psychology and evidence-based treatment, and you bring expertise in your own life. Together, we'll work toward greater wellbeing and authenticity.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist (NJ, PA, and PSYPACT states) with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Before and alongside my private practice, I have held roles as a professor, researcher, and trainer focused on equity, identity, and social justice — teaching at institutions including Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, Haverford College, and Muhlenberg College, and publishing research on ally/accomplice development, bias, and racial justice in journals including the Journal of Social Issues and the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry. This background shapes how I show up in the therapy room: with curiosity and humility about the ways identity and systems impact wellbeing and show up in therapy.
I currently offer individual and couples therapy, along with group therapy; consulting, training, and group facilitation for organizations working on equity, inclusion, and difficult-dialogue skills available upon request.
